On the river addendum

A brief update on yesterday's post. This morning Laura at the Mitre Carlton Hotel Hampton Court made good on her promise to bring in her card reader. This successfully read my camera card and we chose, somewhat randomly, a dozen photos to email to me.

The result is below - not a considered choice, but a tribute to the best hotel service I have ever had, and a really lovely place to stay.

Today I am off to Ely - a quite new experience.

  1. Shades of Tallboys in the Dorothy L Sayers book, 'Busmans's Honeymoon'... all those Tudor chimneys!
Ely Cathedral, if I remember rightly, was one of those where we sat in the choir stalls and felt the organ music vibrating through our bodies. It was a wonderful experience visually and aurally.
    Enjoy the fen country.

    1. I seem to be fixated on chimneys, don't I! I've just walked back from the Cathedral and the organ began as I left.

  2. Those riverside cottages look lovely, don't they? I think you have sold me on that hotel, should the opportunity to attend RSN ever present itself. Although, weak wifi and weak coffee are both considerations as well. But, then again, travel is an adventure. It's nice that you are meeting such helpful people along the way!

    1. The weak coffee was only from the machine in my room - one of those that use bags. The hotel had the usual brewed coffee and an espresso machine. The wifi didn't ever improve but the library computer worked
